Pacific Gold

Wouldn’t it be nice if slot machine’s felt more like video games. Not exactly like video games but rather the way a really good pinball machine can feel like a video game. The sense of adventure and not knowing exactly what’s going to happen next just draws you in and keeps you engaged and entertained. This is what Elk Studios seems to be attempting with it’s Gold Series of which Pacific Gold is a recent installment.

How to Play

The design of a slot can make all of the difference. The underlying principle is fairly consistant. The slot is a game of chance and you are but a witness to the results of statistics. When presented in the right way, it doesn’t feel in the least bit passive. It feels like you have a way to influence the results. With good, moody graphics, game mechanics and an outstanding soundscape, Elk Studios seem to have pulled off this illusion quite successfully. Lucky us.

The feeling of agency is increased with what they call the Exciter feature. You can decide which part of the game you want to go for. Of course these are option that are for sale but then again so is all of the rest of the participation in the game. That’s what you are doing when you set your stake, deciding how much you are willing to pay to play.

Pacific Gold Gameplay & Features

The Grid on Pacific Gold is dynamic, reacting to the action in the game. Starting with a 6x4 grid, when you land a winning combination the grid expands to add another row up to a max of 8 rows in all. The ways to win also expand as a result starting with 4096 ways to win and going up to a max of 262,144 ways to win. It feels very similar to the Megaways engine with the significant difference that this is in response to you winning (or loosing) rather than being entirely random.

Landing a winning combination leads to the avalanche feature where all the winnings symbols disappear and are replaced with new symbols. In combination with Pacific waves that pour golden Wild Cards, this can lead to some very lucrative chain reactions.

The Ghost Box is also a very entertaining feature. When active, all winning symbols are swallowed by the Ghost box. This continues for as long as you win. In the end the Ghost Box releases all the symbols its collected and blows up to clear a large part of the field of play followed by the released symbols filling the gap.

Pacific Gold RTP & Volatility

Pacific Gold has a 95% Return to Player rate and High Volatility.
